Now, let's put that knowledge into practice. Let's create a very simple MS Word macro that will combine the Ctrl+B (Bold) and the Cterl+I (Italic) functions into one keyboard shortcut. ### Let's go into the "View" tab ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-01-22-gif.gif) ### Find the "Record Macro.." option ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-02-21-gif.gif) **NOTE:** If you have a screen with a bigger resolution, your Ribbon may just have the "Record Macro" option present. ### Name your new macro ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-04-48-gif.gif) ### Choose where the macro will be stored ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-05-50-gif.gif) **KEEP IN MIND:** When creating a new macro, you have the ability to store it either in the "Normal.dotm" template, or inside the document you are currently working on. What this means is that, if you store the macro in the "Normal.dotm" template, then it will load in all new documents that you create. If you store the macro in your current document, then it will only load in that specific document. ### Provide a brief description of the macro (optional) ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-09-50-gif.gif) **NOTE:** Providing descriptions to your macros can serve as reminders for what the original purpose of creating the macro was. ### Select the "Keyboard" option ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2009-42-22-gif.gif) ### Create your custom hotkey![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2010-11-52-gif.gif) **CAUTION:** When you set your custom hotkey, you will be told what that hotkey is currently assigned to. If there is no command associated with the custom hotkey you wish to use for your macro, you will see \[unassigned\] in the bottom left side of the window. ### Choose where you wish to save the macro hotkey ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2010-15-21-gif.gif) **REMEMBER:** When saving to "Normal.dotm", the macro will apply to ALL new MS Word documents. When saving to your current document, the macro will apply ONLY to the current document. ### Click "Assign"... ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2010-17-50-gif.gif) Click "Close"... ![](https://support.loomanalytics.com/hubfs/Recording%202023-10-18%20at%2010-18-44-gif.gif) **NOTE:** Your mouse cursor should now show a little tape icon underneath it, meaning that you are now "recording" your actions, much like recording sound to a tape recorder.
